In implementation of the decision of the Committee of Presidents and Directors of Universities and Higher Education Institutions in the GCC countries held at the University of Bahrain in October 2000, a committee for distance learning in higher education institutions in the GCC was formed at its headquarters in the State of Kuwait under the umbrella of Kuwait University. The committee proposes plans, policies, programs and projects aimed at supporting the process of joint work in the field of distance education.

It also works on building and developing systems, networks, and academic and technical procedures in the field of distance education application, in a way that makes higher education institutions more responsive and responsive to development needs and scientific and global developments in this field.
